Obituary for Dallas G. Bannister
Dallas Garland Bannister went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 26, 2019 after a short stay at Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, VA. He was the son of the late Deacon Joseph and Margaret Bannister.
Dallas attended the Brick Church Elementary School and Russell Grove High School. At the age of eighteen, he decided to join the United States Navy, serving from 1950 until 1954. Dallas was employed at Rich Food until his retirement in 1983.
In 1999, he was baptized and joined Liberty Baptist Church. He loved the Atlanta Braves, fishing and reading the newspaper daily from headline to comic strips.
Dallas leaves to cherish his loving memories: his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Helen Bannister; three daughters, Inez Evans (Marcus), JoAnn Bannister and Amy Coles (Wayne). He will meet his son, Garland, Sr. at the gates of Heaven. He also leaves five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; five sisters, Martha Ellis (Herman), Dorothy Bradby, Della Montaque, Margaret Everette (George) and Dr. Nancy Walters; one brother, Joseph Bannister; sisters-in-law, Lateefah El-Amin, Virginia Smith, Thelma Eggleston and Frances Ruffin; brothers-in-law, Alan Wilson, Wilson Ruffin (Hattie) and Joseph Ruffin; other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Liberty Baptist Church, Amelia. Interment church cemetery.
