Obituary for Curtis W. Rather
From the arms of his family to the arms of Jesus, Curtis Wendell (Rap) Rather departed this life on April 18, 2021.

“Stanky” as he was affectionately called, was born on July 7, 1956 to Delois Inez Jennings Rather and the late Alvin C. Rather.

He was baptized and joined Union Baptist Church at an early age. He was educated in the Nottoway County Public School System and graduated from Nottoway County High School in 1974. He attended Federal City College in Washington, DC. Curtis obtained his D.J. License (D.J. Rap) in 1984. He worked as a federal courier for the U.S. Government.

He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving mother, Delois Rather; three sisters, Angela Robertson, Jacqueline Rather-Terry and Brenda Holman; two brothers-in-law, Larry Terry and Stephen Holman; six aunts and four uncles, Shirley Tompkins (Norman), Kathleen Love, Shirley Allen, Natalie Robertson, Gloria Love and Diane Ford (Harold), Joseph Rather (Val) and Lawrence Rather (Syd); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Special thanks to a dedicated care-worker and cousin, Viola (Spreedney) Oliver.

Viewing Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 2 to 6 PM.

W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone in charge of arrangements.
