Obituary for Curtis E. Hawkes
Curtis Eugene Hawkes, son of the late Deacon Howard and Elizabeth Hawkes received his reward on November 30, 2008 at his residence in Blackstone, Virginia.
He joined Mt. Nebo Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend David E. Gordon. After working away from home for many years, he came back and worshipped there until his death.
He graduated from Luther H. Foster High School in 1966. He retired from Winn-Dixie in 1996. Soon after his retirement, he started his own catering business, “Curtis Kitchen on Wheels”, which he sincerely loved.
Curtis enjoyed his life every moment. He loved traveling, cooking, helping others, talking and being with friends.
Curtis memories will be cherished by his two devoted sons, Anthony and Devon (Tami); three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Johnson, Mrs. Deloris Walker and Miss Connie Hawkes; one brother, Leroy Hawkes; one grandson, Christian; one sister-in-law; one devoted nephew, William Hawkes; a godson, Trevian Craig; a goddaughter, Shadiaman Craig; one close cousin, Lee Scott, Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews and devoted friends.
Funeral Services Friday, December 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
