Obituary for Connie M. Dagner
On Monday evening, November 9, 2020, Connie Mae Sellars Dagner of Petersburg, VA quietly slipped away to eternal peace. Connie was at her son’s home in Blackstone, VA surrounded by her loved ones when she heard God’s call. Connie was born in Elmhurst Queens, NY on April 7, 1958 to the late Edna Davis Ellington and the late James “Jim” Freeman. She was also preceded in death by her son, Miguel Dagner and brother, Walter Sellars, Sr.
Connie received her highest form of education at Petersburg High School. At an early age she confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church, Dinwiddie. She later joined the fellowship at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Petersburg, VA.
Connie worked as a metal fabrication operator for both Hill Phoenix and Stamptech for a number of years. She did this work for most of her life and became quite the expert. One of her hobbies was playing softball and in her younger years, she played with the Darvills Clippers and later joined the Hill Phoenix soft ball team. Early on she enjoyed fashion and a good time with her family and friends. In her later years Connie took to playing bingo as her place of peace and fun. And lets never forget the best bid whist player 609 has ever seen.
Connie is survived by her husband, Sherman D. Dagner, Sr., loving and devoted son, Sherman D. Dagner, Jr., both of Blackstone, VA; loving and devoted daughter, Lakeisha D. Dagner of Petersburg, VA; grandchildren, Tyquan D. Dagner, Tyshawna D. Dagner, Nevari A. Gilliam and Summer L. Jones; three sisters, Barbara M.
