Obituary for Connie A. Hawkes
On Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at Johnston Willis Hospital, God tenderly wrapped his arms around Connie Annette Hawkes, sweetly calling her home. Connie was born June 9, 1956 to the late William Sidney Hawkes and Margaret Louise Hawkes in Nottoway County. She was lovingly raised by the late Deacon Raymond and Geneva Williams throughout her childhood.
Connie was baptized and joined the Cellar Creek Baptist Church at an early age. As a faithful member she served the Lord in many ways. Connie enjoyed singing in the CCBC choir, serving as the secretary; she was a faithful and dedicated member of the Sunday School, serving as secretary there also; she was a member of the Daughters in Christ ministry and culinary ministry.
Connie was educated in the Nottoway County School system, graduating in the class of 1974. After graduating, she worked 20 plus years at Clays Rest Home, serving the elderly of the nursing home. Connie found her second family at the American Family Fitness Center. There she worked 11 years, gaining forever friends and family until her health declined. During her walk in life Connie has never met a stranger.
Connie is survived by: her “beautiful” devoted daughter, Nekeisha Hawkes-Shelton; grandchildren, Tyra and David Shelton, Jr. She also leaves cherished memories with three brothers, William, Wayne, and Andre Hawkes; one sister, Denise (Albert) Vaughan; two aunts, Dorothy (George) Holmes and Diane Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; long time best friend, Evangelist Diane Barbour, and devoted family friend, Julio Sousa.
Funeral Services Sunday, July 5, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at .W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home, Blackstone. Interment private.
