Obituary for Clinton O. Hawkes, Sr.
On Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at his home in Blackstone, VA, death Angels from Heaven slipped into the day quietly and peacefully and took our loved one away. Clinton Odell Hawkes, son of the late John and Channie Hawkes was born on March 27, 1954 in Amelia, VA.
He was educated and graduated from Russell Grove with the class of 1972. He attended John Tyler College for two years. Clint loved sports, he played baseball, football and basketball, and was a die hard Pittsburg Steelers fan. At an early age he was baptized and joined Cedar Hill Baptist Church were he sang on the choir and was Chairman of the Trustees.
He was employed by Norfolk and Southern Railroad for twenty-eight years.
On March 19, 1993 he married Mable Tillery of Burkeville, VA. They were blessed with four children.
Clint is preceded in death by three brothers, John, Jesse and Joseph Hawkes. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of twenty-eight years, Mable T. Hawkes of Blackstone, VA; three sons, Clinton Hawkes, Jr. of Richmond, VA, Michael Gee (Nichole) of Welton, NC and Quinton Hawkes of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one daughter, Michelle Smith (James) of Richmond, VA; one god-daughter, Tarquasha; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two god grandchildren; mother-in-law, Hattie Jones (Grady) of Philadelphia, PA; two brothers, Carl Hawkes Sr. (Shirley) of Blackstone, VA and Raymond Hawkes (Veda) of North Chesterfield, VA; one sister, Josephine Sterns (Ralph) of Henrico, VA; sister-in-law, Gladys Hawkes of Richmond, VA; one aunt, Louise Worsham; one uncle, Hugo Worsham; a host of nephews, one devoted, Carl Hawkes, Jr., nieces, cousins, other family and friends.
Funeral Services Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Cedar Hill Baptist Church, Blackstone. Interment church cemetery.
