Obituary for Clinton C. Crenshaw, Jr.
CLINTON COLUMBUS CRENSHAW, JR. of Blackstone, Virginia departed this life to our Heavenly Father and Savior on January 3, 2009. His life began September 1, 1955. He was born out of love to Edna Evans Crenshaw and the late Clinton Columbus Crenshaw, Sr. He was affectionately called “Buddy” or “Buddy Row”.
Clinton accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Springhill Baptist Church in Blackstone, Virginia where he ushered and worshipped until he moved to Staunton, Virginia to attend Woodrow Wilson Vocational Technical School. After completing his studies in automobile mechanics, Clinton enlisted into the United States Army where he served for twenty-one years and retired with honors. During this time, he attended Transporter School, Fort Ord. CA; Primary Leadership School in Fort Dix, NJ; Transport Operator Course, Fort Eustis, VA and Big Ben Community College, Bad Kisender, Germany. He was stationed at 104th Transportation Co., Ft. Devens, MA: 69th Transportation Co., Bremerhaven, Germany: U.S. Army Garrison, Ft. Meade, MA: 249th Engineer Combat Battalion, Karsrule, Germany: 110th Quarter Master, Savanna, Georgia, 2nd ACD Petroleum Specialist, Bad Kisender, Germany and Hancock Field, Syracuse, NY.
Clinton received many decorations, medals and ribbons, (Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Service Star, Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Commendation Medals, 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon and Humanitarian Service Medal).
After retiring from the military, “Buddy” returned home to live and work. He worked as an officer at Farmville Corrections and civil service at Fort Pickett until his health declined. “Buddy” had a big heart and would give what he had to help others. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends.
Memories of Clinton will live in the hearts of his mother, Edna Crenshaw; son, Clinton Sentel Crenshaw; siblings, Brenda Crenshaw, Cynthia Crenshaw and Melvin Evans (Gladys); nephews, Melvin Jr. (April) and Mark (Andrea); great-nephews, Mark and Ja’vion; great-niece, Olana. He also leaves uncles, aunts, cousins, many friends, and a devoted and loving friend, Shirley Hardy.
Funeral Services Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Springhill Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
