Cleola Lee Vaughn of Blackstone, VA, a lifelong educator and loving pilar of the community peacefully transitioned on 5/24/2025. She was born in Kinston, North Carolina on December 22, 1943, to Herman and Ruby Aldridge.
Her professional career was steeped in love and caring for her students with a passion for leaving an indelible mark on each one of them. She taught for many years in the Petersburg public school system before relocating to Nottoway County and Burkeville Elementary to continue her Teaching career. She was a member of the Virginia Education Association, a former President for Nottoway Habitat for Humanity, a devout deaconess at Shiloh Baptist Church, past President of the Amelia/Nottoway Chapter of Virginia State University Alumni Association, a member of the Virginia State University Whiffettes as well as a Silhouette of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
She was preceded in death by her loving mother and father Herman and Ruby Aldridge, sister Moystella Hicks, brother Herman Aldridge (Shirley), Carolyn Shepherd, sister Novella Ross and brother Curtis Moore.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years Sherman Vaughn, Sr., two loving sons, Sherman “Carl” Vaughn Jr. of Chesterfield, VA, Sterling “Curtis” Vaughn Sr. (Charlene) of Winston Salem, NC Nephew/Son Terrill Shepherd of San Antonio, TX, four grandchildren, Chaz Edwards, Shaila Vaughn, Sterling “CJ” Vaughn and Sienna “Si Si” Vaughn. Four Great Grandchildren, Azlyn Reese, Dakota Edwards, August “Gus” Edwards and Samir Preston. She had a host nieces, nephews and cousins that she held very dear to her heart.
Cleola lived a vibrant life full of music and education. She touched the hearts and minds of everyone she came into contact with.
