On Wednesday afternoon December 4, 2024, Ms. Claudine Yates entered into eternal rest at Farmville Health and Rehabilitation Center in Farmville, VA. Daughter of the late Greatless and Maria Washington, she was bon January 16, 1938.
She was a quiet and carefree person and was loved by all who knew her. She never complained even during her long period of illness and would keep you laughing with her funny phrases and hilarious gestures. She was known affectionately by her nieces and nephews as “Aunt LaLay”.
Claudine attended Snead Spring Public School in Crewe, VA. She was baptized in 1967 and became a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing on the choir for many years. She was employed as a domestic worker in the community and was one of the best baby sitters around to both family and friends.
She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Washington; two sisters, Frances Little and Vivian Staten; and a grandson, Shaun Johnson.
Claudine leaves to cherish her loving memories: two devoted sons, Lorenzo Johnson and Darrell Yates, both of Crewe, VA; one sister, Alma Dodson of Blackstone, VA; seven grandchildren, Lorenzo Deshawn, Lakeysha, Codarrell, Dawarren, Demar, Jalen and Daryeonna; seven great grandchildren; nine nieces; three nephews; a devoted companion, Leroy Spencer; and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
