Obituary for Clara S. Chalkley
On April 10, 2020, God sent his angels to bring home his faithful servant, Clara Jean Scott Chalkley. She was born June 30, 1957 in Amelia, Virginia to Virginia and Moses Scott.
Clara attended Amelia County Public Schools, graduating in 1976. She went on to work a few jobs within the county, but found her true calling as a teacher. She enjoyed working with the children at Amelia schools and Hope Chapel Daycare. Clara was loved by many of the student and they called her “Momma Chalkley”. She was such a loving and gentle person, her heart was big enough for anyone who needed her.
At an early age she joined Promise Land Baptist Church. Over the years she served as President/Director of the Youth Choir, member of the Senior Choir, and was also a member of the Women’s Ministry for eight years.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Alphonso Scott; a nephew, “Toby”; and an uncle, Irvin Epps. She is survived by her loving and devoted children, Alvin (Damaris) Chalkley of Powhatan, Brandon Chalkley of Amelia, Terrell Chalkley of Amelia, and Tabitha Chalkley of Amelia; four brothers, Kenneth Royal of Amelia, Clifton (Dorothy) Scott of Hopewell, Wilbert Scott of Richmond and Moses Scott, Jr. of Amelia; eight loving grandkids, four devoted, Zaviah Anderson of Richmond, Kyara Chalkley of Crewe, Jalen Chalkley of Meherrin and Kamari Byars of Amelia; devoted aunt, Doris Epps of Amelia; devoted friends, Rosa Stokes of Crewe, Jill of Amelia, Gloria Kuykendall, Kristopher Normand and Janet Peebles of Amelia; a host of nieces nephews, cousins and friends that loved her dearly.
