Obituary for Christine V. Jennings
Wherefore, it has pleased our Lord and Saviour to call from labor to reward our beloved Christine Virginia Jennings, who departed this life on Monday October 1, 2012 in Lynchburg, VA at the Hospice on the Hills..
Christine, daughter of the late Blanche Williams and Joseph Eppes, was born March 7, 1927 in Nottoway County, Virginia. She was educated in the Nottoway County Public Schools. Christine joined. Mt Nebo Baptist Church at an early age. The spiritual guidance she received was maintained throughout her life as she remained steadfast in her faith and sought through her actions to magnify the Lord. Christine also served as an Usher until her health began to fail her. She would often say “God will answer your prayers, all you have to do is talk with Him and see what He will do”.
Christine V. Eppes met and married Leslie Jennings. From that union five sons, Harry, Calvin, Leslie, Thomas, and Leon and one daughter, Margaret, were born. During the year of 1973, Christine married James W. Jennings.
Christine retired from the Piedmont Geriatric Hospital after working thirty two years as a Dietary Aide.
Christine loved life. She took pleasure in her family and friends, cooking, gardening, reading, and travelling throughout the community helping others. She proved her love for others with the demonstration of her affectionate care for her family.
Her many family and friends remember her as a kind and giving person, who was there to help anyone in need. Christine was affectionately called “Mrs. Christine”, “Chrissie”, “Duck”, “Granny Girl”, “Grandma”, and “Short Leg” by her family and friends who love her unconditionally.
Until the day she entered into eternal rest, her two sons, Calvin and Thomas, demonstrated the same unselfish care, as she did for others.
Christine was preceded in death by her husband James “Red”, three sons: Harry, Leslie, Leon; her only and devoted daughter Margaret and a brother, Calvin.
Christine leaves to mourn her passing but cherish her life and memories: two devoted and caring sons- Calvin and Thomas and two daughters–in-law –Elaine and Rosalind. Twelve grandchildren: Carolyn, Bernice, James, Lula, Marvin, Deborah, Philander, Kanitra, Latoya, Latasha, Melinda, and Nelson. Nineteen great-grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren along with a host of cousins and friends.
We will often think of you when we are all alone, for memory is the only friend that grief can call its own. Like Ivy on a withered oak, when all other things decay; our love for you will still be green and never fade away.
Funeral Services Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone in charge of arrangements.
