Obituary for Christine Stokes Oliver
Mrs. Christine Frances Jackson Stokes-Oliver was born February 16, 1929, in Cumberland County Virginia to the loving parents Robert Lee and Ellen Taylor Jackson. She departed this peaceful life and entered her eternal life with Jesus on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Cool Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center in Franklin, Tennessee.
Christine was educated in the Cumberland County School System, she was a graduate of R. R. Moton High School and continued her education by attending and graduating from Piedmont Nursing School in Burkeville, Va.
Christine accepted Christ in her life at an early age and was united with Union Baptist Church. Christine held many positions in church to include Church Clerk at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, faithful and dedicated member of Deacon, Women’s and Prayer Ministries as well as Sunday School and Bible Study at Union Baptist Church. In addition, she also served as Secretary for Friendly Five Gospel Singers and was a member of the NAACP.
Christine met and married the love of her life Richard Taylor Stokes; this union was richly blessed for over 32 years with love laughter and four wonderful sons. Richard went home to be with the Lord.
Christine was employed for many years as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Piedmont Hospital in Burkeville, VA. she served as Secretary/Office Manager for Stokes Painting Company and Quality Plus Construction Company for over 32 years.
Christine was blessed again to continue a marital relationship with Deacon James H. Oliver. This union was blessed for 22 years; he also preceded her in death.
In addition to her parents and both husbands preceding her in death, she was also preceded by, sons, Stanley McDonald Stokes, Richard Jackson Stokes, III and Carl Everett Stokes, sister, Harriett Parker, brothers, Melvin Jackson and Simuel Jackson
Those left to celebrate her memories are her loving and devoted son, Christopher Taylor (Chandra) Stokes, Pleasant View, Tennessee, sisters, Vivian(George) Clark, brother, Robert B. Jackson, sisters-in-law, Frances Knight and Mitzi Jackson, stepchildren, James (Marie) Oliver, Jr., Melvin Oliver, Marvin(Diana) Oliver, Ronnie(Patricia) Oliver, Bessie Oliver, godson, Derek Smith, a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Viewing Friday, August 26, 2022 from 2-6:00pm at funeral home. Final viewing Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Union Baptist Church, Crewe from 10:00AM until time of funeral at 12:00PM. Burial in Stokes Cemetery Crewe, Va.
