Obituary for Christine M. Watson
Christine Matthews Watson was called home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Retreat Doctor’s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her father, Nolden Lee Matthews and her mother, Essie Mae Brown Matthews.
Christine was born to the union of the late Nolden and Essie Mae Matthews in Norman Park, Georgia on March 22, 1944. She attended public schools in Norman Park, Georgia. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and attended Dallas Chapel AME Church in Omega, Georgia until she moved to Hempstead, New York in 1961 where she attended Antioch Baptist Church. After relocating to Blackstone, Virginia in 1972 Christine attended and then became a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, where she was the Financial Secretary, sang on the Senior Choir, and was a member of the Couples Club, the Women’s Ministry, and Nurses’ Ministry.
In the summer of 1967, Christine met the love of her life, Mahlon H. Watson, Jr. and they were united in holy matrimony on February 23, 1969.
Christine was a dedicated employee at Heritage Hall Nursing Home for 31 years where she truly enjoyed caring for others.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Mahlon, Jr., two daughters, Angela (Garland) Wynes and Kisha Watson; three grandchildren Garland, Jr, Mariah, and Jonathan Wynes; mother-in-law Lucille Watson; five brothers, Eugene (Julia) Matthews, Talmadge (Yvette) Matthews, Leon (Shirley) Matthews, Brown Matthews, Charles (Elizabeth) Matthews; 3 sisters, Evelyn Flowers, Helen Harrison, and Norene Matthews; two brothers-in-law, Robert Watson and William Watson, three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Merritt, Carolyn Stewart, and Bernice (Kenneth) Vaughan; a devoted cousin Janice (Peery) Wells and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was also blessed to have a host of wonderful friends, especially Barbara Rather, Sabrina White, Clara Evans, Darlene Richardson, Wanda Eppes, and Sheila Eanes.
Funeral Services Monday, January 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Nebo Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
