Obituary for Chester S. Givens
Peacefully on Tuesday morning, February 15,2022 at Amelia Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center (Wellspring) in Amelia, VA our Heavenly Father touched our beloved brother “Chester Spencer Givens Sr.” with a final finger of love and whispered “My child, it’s time to enter your eternal home free from pain and suffering to rest from your labor.”

Chester was born in Richmond, Virginia on July 5, 1939. He was the first of nine children born to the late Chester and Alice Wood Givens. He received his formal education in Amelia County Public Schools and was a graduating member of Russell Grove High School Class of 1958.

Early in his life, Chester accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, was baptized and became a member of the Albright Presbyterian Church. After relocating to Richmond, Ohio, North Carolina, or wherever he resided, Chester became affiliated with a church whereby he could worship the Lord in spirit and in truth. Chester was a born again Christian who loved the Lord and developed a strong relationship with Him in his daily walk. He was ordained to serve as an Elder to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was instrumental in setting up and establishing churches as he sojourned through life.

During his early years after completing his education, he relocated to Richmond. While there, he met and married Rosa Lee Dickerson. From this union three children were born: Douglas, Vernon Wayne and Chester, Jr.

Chester was always a pleasant, warm-spirited and fun loving person that enlightened the hearts of all who was in his presence. He touched the heart of many people during his walk in life. He had a heart of gold. He loved his family and friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He had the God-given ability to adapt and to make himself content in whatever situation that life brought his way.

Though Almighty God in His infinite Wisdom saw fit to take him from our midst, we stand firm on God’s promises that Chester is at peace with God and have gone to a better place that God has prepared for those who has kept their faith in Him. We bow in humble submission to the will of God who does all things well.

Chester is preceded in death by his wife, Rosa and siblings; one sister: Nettie and one brother: Walter.

He leaves to rejoice and continue his legacy of love and friendship: Three caring and devoted sons, Douglas, Vernon Wayne and Chester, Jr. of Richmond; one granddaughter, Vernika; three great-grandchildren, Anezia, Za’Mier,Kiing; five sisters: Mary Friend of Richmond, Frances Brown, Alice Worsham (Frank), Addie Monroe (John), Jacqueline Booker (Frank) of Amelia; one brother: Tyrone Givens (Selena) of Amelia one sister-in-law: Lucille Monroe (Wilson) of Amelia, two brothers-in-law: Larry Dickerson (Patricia) and Martin Dickerson (Palma) of Richmond; one devoted cousin: Nettie Wright of Akron, Ohio and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many other friends especially his Amelia Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center staff and residents.
