Obituary for Charlie Lee Wingo
Charlie Lee Wingo was born on September 28, 1938 in Jetersville, Virginia to Richard and Violet Wingo. He departed this life on Thursday, March 6, 2014.
He graduated from Russell Grove High School and shortly after moved to Yonkers, New York and then East Orange, New Jersey. There he married his first love Maxine Jeter on September 22, 1962. Not long after the birth of their first child, Cedric Lucian Wingo, Charlie joined the Army where he served his country for 2 years. After leaving the Army, his second child, Roger Douglas Wingo was born in 1965.
He was employed at West Vaco for 27 years and retired in 1991. He continued to work several other jobs, including Wal-Mart where he worked for six years until his health began to decline. Charlie had a special way of doing everything and celebrated his life “his way or no way”.
Left to cherish his memory and carry on his earthly legacy are his wife Maxine; children, Cedric and Roger (Citronella, who was very devoted to her father-in-law); three grandchildren, Brandon Wingo (Santwania), Shannon Wingo, and Khadijah Jackson; four step-grandchildren, Natasha Jackson, Erica Jackson, Charmese Jackson and Erica Catching; eight great-grandchildren, Trey, Brandee and Savanna Wingo, Marcus Jones, Rakeem and Rakeesha Entzminger, Miya and MaKayla Catching; daughter-in-law, Sendy Wingo of Augusta, Georgia.; five sisters, Betty Foster (Henry), Mary W. Brumskill, Carolyn Wingo, Thelma Southall and Mary Virginia Wingo; one brother, Richard Wingo, Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Juon Conway (Phillip), and Dorothy Randolph (Freeman); two brothers-in-law, Leon Jeter (Betty) and Malcolm Jeter (Carolyn); devoted friends, Harry Coleman, Grant Brown, Anthony Warren, Lawrence Mines, Rufus Coleman, Gene Scruggs, and Mary Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Viewing will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. where the family will greet friends from 7 to 8 p.m..

Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Baptist Church at the corner of Hull Street and Belt Blvd.

Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home of Amelia in charge of arrangements.

Viewing will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. where the family will greet friends from 7 to 8 p.m..
