Obituary for Charles R. Henderson, Jr.
On April 29, 2020, Charles Richard Henderson, Jr., 68, went home to be with the Lord. Charles was born in Powhatan County to Charles Richard Henderson, Sr. and Cora Lee Henderson. Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister Dorothy and his brother Robert, Sr. (Amy). Charles was united in marriage to Loretta Jackson on December 13, 1974. From this union three children were born: Anthony, Sr. (Danjile), Brandon (Tiffany) and Shawn.
Charles received Christ and joined Second Antioch Baptist Church at an early age. A graduate of Powhatan High School, Charles was a member of the first integrated class at the school. During his time there he also excelled on the Football field and the Baseball diamond.
Charles was a very quiet and gentle man who was always there to lend a helping hand or an insightful word. He always provided for his family and was a very dedicated colleague who worked at Phillip Morris until he retired after 30 years of service. In retirement, he loved to spend more time doing the things that brought him joy, spending time with his family, cooking, his love of antique cars and drag racing, the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Yankees. He also loved to watch his extensive movie collection as well as any old game that had Joe Montana, Derek Jeter or Michael Jordan playing.
He leaves to cherish his life a devoted wife of 46 years, his sons, three grandchildren, Anthony Jr., Brailynn, Ashlynn; two sisters Deborah Clarke (Aubrey), Jackie Gray; sister-in-law Lois Smith (Eddie); brother-in-law Frankie Jackson and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, family and friends, all of whom were very dear to him.
