Obituary for Charles L. Howard
CHARLES LLOYD HOWARD was born on February 16, 1950 in Harlem, New York to the late Charles and Gloria Howard. He departed this life on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.
As a child, he attended Bronx Elementary School for the Gifted and prestigious Stuyvesant High School. After graduating from high school, he attended New York University. It was there that he met Charlene Brown, and they married on April 5, 1971 in New York City. They were blessed with one son, Olu Masinde Howard.
Charles traveled extensively and could call New York, Texas, California, Georgia, and Virginia home. He also had careers in optometry and the culinary arts. He resigned from the University of Richmond in 2012 due to declining health.
Charles was baptized at Pleasant Oak Baptist Church in November 1998 under the leadership of his brother-in-law, Pastor James L. Green. He loved his church family and was supported by members of Pleasant Oak when his health began to falter.
Those left to cherish his memories are his son Olu Howard; Sister, Barbara Howard Green; Brother-in-Law, Pastor James L. Green; Nieces, Dara Green and Monifa Green Beverly, Nephew-in-law, Travis Beverly; Great Nieces, Naila Beverly and Imani Beverly; Former Wife, Charlene Stroughn; Aunts, Elizabeth Howard Morton and Mildred Howard Colmes; Special Friends and Confidants, Lynn Farmer, Charles Asante, Kim Asante, and John Holland; and many cousins and friends.
Funeral Services Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 12:00 noon at Pleasant Oak Baptist Church, Victoria with interment in the church cemetery.
Viewing will only be at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
