Mrs. Charlene K. Henderson of 904 Falls Street, Blackstone, Virginia entered into eternal rest at Centra Southside Community Hospital, Farmville, VA on Monday, November 23, 2020, after a period of brief illness.

Charlene was born to James & Patricia (Patsy) Knight on January 14, 1962 in Nottoway, County.

She accepted her Lord & Savior’s Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at Shiloh-Dinwiddie Baptist Church, Dinwiddie, VA. She served within the House of Worship as an Usher (Doorkeeper) and sang in The Young Adult Choir.

Charlene was educated in Nottoway County Public Schools and graduated in the Class of 1980. She attended The University of Phoenix and received her Master’s in Criminal Justice & Computer Engineering in 2012.

Charlene met the love of her life, Edward A. Henderson and joined into Holy Matrimony on August 5, 1989. To this union four children were born and raised, Felicia, Edward (EJ), Sade’ and Cadesha.

She was truly an example of hard work, skills, dedication, and jack of all trades. She worked several jobs to include: Wendy’s, Levis Strauss, in Blackstone, VA. Virginia Apparel in Kenbridge, VA for several years. She started employment for Deep Meadows Correctional Center, State Farm, VA and later transferred to Lunenburg Correctional Center, Lunenburg, VA. She served as Front Entry Correctional Guard and retired September 1, 2018 after 25 years of dedicated service. She received numerous awards, during her tenure with above agencies for exceptional service. After retiring, her skills called again to work Part-time in 2020 working for JMI Cleaning Service at Benchmark Community, Kenbridge, VA.

Charlene was truly a loving, caring, beautiful spirited, classy, selfless daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in- law, auntie, sister-in-law, best friend, friend, child of God who was concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with her own self. Her example of sacrifices/legacy for her family and friends won’t ever be forgotten.

She was preceded in death and met at the Heaven’s Pearly Gates by her Grandparents, Frank & Eleanor Boswell, Sr.,Lee & Irene Knight Uncles, Frank Boswell, Sr. Eddie Wright, Robert, Ben and Raymond aka “Fuzzy” Aunts/Godmother, Sarah Wright, Arlene Carroll, Brother, James R. Knight, Jr., Mother-in-law, Alberta Henderson, Brothers-in-law, Richard Henderson, Keith Hicks, Sr., and Nephew, Michael Henderson.

She leaves to cherish her memories, a loving and devoted husband of 31 years, Edward A. Henderson of Blackstone, VA, three devoted daughters, Felicia Knight, of Greensboro, NC, Sade’ Henderson (Trey), Cadesha Henderson of Blackstone, VA, one son, Edward D. Henderson (Stephanie) of Amelia, VA, ten grandchildren, Dakariyah Singleton, Kaevon Knight, Kyia Knight all of Greensboro, NC, Alexus EL, Terrance EL, III, Edward D. Henderson, Jr., Logan Henderson all of Amelia, VA, Quamir Dowtin, Trey Sykes, Jr. of Blackstone, VA, parents, James and Patricia (Patsy) Knight of Blackstone, VA, three brothers, Edward Boswell of Petersburg, VA, Ralph Knight, Jerome Knight of Blackstone, VA, eight sister in laws, Edith Henderson of Woodbridge, VA, Carolyn Henderson of New York, NY, Annie Henderson, Brenda Hicks, Barbara Henderson, Fannie Marshall, Tonya Knight, Tammy Knight of Blackstone, VA, Evelyn Stokes of Crewe, VA, two brothers in laws, Horace Henderson of Blackstone, VA, Raymond Henderson of New York, NY, four aunts, Mary Gilchrest, Martha Boswell of Blackstone, VA , Ann Hardy (Deacon Morris Hardy) of Darvills, VA, Thelma Cunninging of Georgia, godson, Keith Hicks, Jr., a host of nieces, three devoted, Sharon Gray, LaPatricia Parker of Woodbridge, VA and Tanecha Knight of Blackstone, VA, a host of nephews, relatives and friends. Three devoted friends, Vanessa Goode of Blackstone, VA, Sandra Garland of Richmond, VA and Wanda White of Georgia. Charlene was a member of the Sista2Sista Social Club, she fellowshipped with dining out, social gathering to strengthen sisters near and far.

Graveside services Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Shiloh-Dinwiddie Baptist Church, Blackstone.
