Obituary for Catherine E. Stith
Catherine Elizabeth Stith, “Ms. Stith”, age 88, formerly of Crewe, Virginia, passed away on October 31, 2020. She was born on April 2, 1932, to Sennie Sears.
She worked as a bus driver for the Nottoway County School system for 33 years, where she touched the lives of every child that came into contact with her. Catherine truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family, snacking on ginger snaps and a hot cup of coffee, watching a good movie with a strong message and great music and spending time with her kids, grand kids, nieces, nephews and great grand children.
Though she grew up in a time where life was not the easiest and education was limited, Catherine was able to grasp hold on the meaning of life and its purpose! The motto that she followed to the fullest extent and frequently stated: “Treat people the way you want to be treated, you never know what someone may be going through”! Never was a person in her company that didn’t feel welcomed or loved! It was her way of being in this world, that allowed you to fall in love upon first contact. Whether it be her soft angelic voice, caring words of encouragement that seemed to propel and power you through life, or her wisdom that she passed on as water from a spring.
Catherine believed that manners and politeness will carry you in life, sometimes further than education. She kept an immaculate home, where family would often visit to share in the joy and love that radiated from her! She will truly be missed!
Catherine was preceded in death by her mother, Sennie Sears; her husband, William Samuel Stith, Sr., “Billy”. She is survived by her three children William Samuel Stith Jr. “Champ” and Shirley “Maxine” Stith (daughter in law) of Crewe, Virginia, Felecia Denise Hastye and Henry Hastye (son in law) of Durham, NC., and Tony Carlos Stith and LaTonya Stith (daughter in law) of Crewe, Virginia, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home, Blackstone. Interment private.
