Obituary for Calvin W. Wingo, Sr.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather bodily left us, but his spirit will forever live on in and through each of us.

God dispatched an angel on Tuesday,  May 13, 2014 to escort Calvin Wentworth Wingo, Sr. home. Calvin was born July 22, 1928 to the late John and Lucie Farrar Wingo and the grandson of the late Andrew and Estella Wingo.

Calvin, known to many as "Mr. C", was educated in Amelia and graduated from Russell Grove High School.  After graduation in 1947 he joined the US Army where he served during peacetime for 3 years.

After leaving the Army he resided in Amelia until 1955 when he married the former Angeline E. Jackson of Amelia and moved to New Jersey in 1956.  While in New Jersey he worked at Van Dyke Manor for 17 years.  In 1973 Calvin returned to the home place with his family and worked various jobs including Union Envelope, Holly Farm Chicken, retiring from Southern States Cooperative and the Amelia County School System.

Calvin at an early age joined Russell Grove Presbyterian Church known now as Zion Hill Presbyterian Church where he served faithfully as church custodian, groundskeeper and elder until his health started failing.

Calvin's favorite pastimes were cutting grass and sitting in his swing.

Calvin leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 59 years Angeline J. Wingo; four children, Calvin Jr. (Linda) Passaic, NJ, Debra Peay, Roger (Delice) and Penny Robinson (Wayne) all of Amelia; two sisters-in-law, devoted Mary Ann Jackson and Mary Worsham; one brother-in-law, Reuben Broadnax; six grandboys, Christopher (LeAnne), Terrance (Crystal), Thomas (Candyce), Jason (Kristin), Joseph and Justin; four great-grandchildren, Kyrsten, Kylie, Rylan and Kourtney; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  He also leaves devoted friends Eugene Randall and Franklin Mitchell.
