Calvin Roosevelt Rice was born on February 23, 1937 to the late York and Edna Rice of Rice, VA. He departed this life at home on Friday, September 27, 2019.
He was educated at Broad Street School located in Rice, VA.
As a young boy, Calvin enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family. Years passed and Calvin found himself several new bobbies, such as card playing, horseshoes, checkers and chess, just a few things that made him smile.
Calvin was preceded in death by his loving wife of many years, Estelle Rice; his parents, York and Edna Rice; his beloved sisters, Mary Lee and Rosetta Booker; two brothers-in-law, John Bland, Sr. and Jacob Lipscomb.
Calvin leaves to cherish his memory: two children, Viola Bland and Benjamin Bland, both of Rice, VA; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Bland of Rice, VA and Daisy Lipscomb of Dillwyn, VA; one brother, Samuel Rice (Cora) of Rice, VA; one brother-in-law, James Booker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services for Mr. Calvin Rice will be held Thursday, October 3, 2019 at 12 noon at Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home, Amelia. Interment private
