Obituary for Calvin "Pooker" Jennings
Calvin Eugene “Pooker” Jennings was born on December 24, 1946 to the late Christine and Leslie Jennings, Sr., in Nottoway County, Virginia. Wherefore it has pleased our Lord and Savior to call from labor to reward our beloved Calvin Eugene “Pooker” Jennings who departed this life on Sunday, August 1, 2021 in Richmond, Virginia at the Chippenham Hospital. “Pooker” was educated in the Nottoway County Public School System and proudly worked as a welder.
Calvin Eugene “Pooker” was loved by all who crossed his path and travels in life. Pooker would assist anyone with anything if he could. He was still assisting by mowing 5 lawns the day before he passed. He never gave up.
Pooker met and married the late Rosalind Williams in November 1993 who proceeded him in death. Pooker loved life. You could catch him going to car races, watching football games on Sundays. The New York Giants was his favorite NFL team. You could also find him across the bridge hanging out with his friends, Ralph and Ms. Pearl along with the rest of his crew.
Last but not least, he loved and cherished his only son, Philando Jennings. There’s nothing he wouldn’t do for his son or family. To Philando, his dad Pooker was his hero.
Dad, “…did you ever know that you’re my hero? You’re everything I would like to be. I could fly higher than an eagle. Cause you are the wind beneath my wings….”
Calvin “Pooker” was preceded in death by his wife Rosalind Jennings, brothers, Henry, Leslie, Jr. (Boo), Leon and one sister Margaret.
Calvin leaves to cherish his life and memories his son, Philando Jennings and partner Chance Manley, his granddaughter Te’Naja Briel Jennings, his brother Thomas, his nieces Carolyn, Berniece, Lula, Deborah, Glenarda, Kanitra, LaToya, Malinda, Latarsha, his nephews James Bernard, Marvin (Katherine) and Nelson, his 19 great nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
We will often think of you when we are all alone for memory is the only friend that grief can call its own. Like Ivy on a withered oak, when all other things decay, our love for you will still be green and never fade away.
Viewing will be held Friday, August 6, 2021 from 12 to 7PM.
Graveside Services Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Jennings Family Cemetery, Crewe, VA.
W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone in charge of arrangements.
