Obituary for Byrdie L. Perry
Byrdie Leander Perry, 69, of Amelia County, VA, peacefully departed this life on Friday, December 5, 2015 at the Amelia Nursing Home.
Byrdie was born to the late Richard and Louise Hawkes Perry on November 28, 1946 in Amelia County, VA.  He attended the Amelia County Public School System and graduated from Russell Grove High School in 1968.  He enjoyed working with his relatives and friends at Sonoco Paper Product in Chester, VA where he retired after 27 years of service.  At an early age, he confessed his love for the Lord and became a member of Manassa Hill Baptist Church.
Byrdie was a quiet person with such a unique personality that was likeable by all he came in contact with.  There were numerous hobbies and activities that he enjoyed to the utmost:  working on cars, reading newspapers, working crossword/word finder puzzles, watching westerns, watching wrestling and playing bid whist.   He read the Bible and was very knowledgeable concerning the Scriptures. He also enjoyed sitting in his room at the Nursing Home as he watched and timed everyone who entered the building. Although he resided in the Nursing Home, he kept in close contact with both family and friends.  Byrdie was fully aware of what was taking place in the community and world events at all times and kept his visitors informed.
Byrdie was preceded in death by his parents:  Richard and Louise Hawkes Perry; Brothers, Edgar “Jimmy”, Richard  “Chubby”, Joshua “Darnell” and Fletcher “Cootsie” Perry; and Sisters; Asalene Davis, Helen Banks and Thelma Lawrence.
He leaves to cherish his fondest memories:  a Son; Derrick Royal, three Grandchildren; Derrick, Delshay, and Deandra Hite; one Great Grandson; Landen Bradley; two Brothers; Benjamin (Bettie), and Ernest (Sabrina) Perry, four Sisters-in-law; Jackie, Bettie, Delores and Sandra Perry, several nieces, nephews and cousins that he loved dearly and enjoyed being in their presence.  In addition, he had “numerous” special friends that he cherished, looked forward to their visits and telephone conversations until the very end.
