Obituary for Byrdie I. Harris
Mrs. Byrdie Irene Broadnax Harris, affectionately known as “Cookie Lady” was born on August 27, 1927. She was the eldest child born to James Ed and Rosetta Broadnax in Rockingham County, NC. The family moved to Amelia County, VA when she was in her early teens. She entered into holy matrimony with the late Charlie William Harris on February 5, 1949.
Mrs. Harris was employed and retired from Nabisco in 1993. Byrdie was known by all for her amazing talent for cooking, sewing and creating beautiful arts and crafts which was a long term passion for her.
Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Harris; son Felix Harris, Sr.; daughters, Ruth Bailey, Lucy Cotman, Louise Hunt and Lela Booker; devoted sister, Sarah Ann Monroe; brothers, Marvin, Henry Thomas, James Allen and William Broadnax; and devoted friend, Ida Burrell.
Mrs. Harris leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Rose Alston and Elsie Gutrick; sons, Edward Harris, Charles Lee Harris and Alfred Harris; brothers, John Broadnax (Catherine) and Reuben Broadnax (Gladys); daughter-in-law, Karen Harris; daughter-in-love, Verna’ Left; over sixty grandchildren, great grandchildren. Great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
