Obituary for Brenda Y. Crenshaw

Brenda Yvonne Crenshaw of Durham, North Carolina, formerly of Blackstone, Virginia. She entered eternal rest at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina on May 26, 2022.

The beloved daughter of (the late) Clinton C. Crenshaw and Edna Evans Crenshaw, was born December 12, 1959. Brenda was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Evans, Sr. and Clinton Crenshaw, Jr.

Brenda was baptized and excepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at age ten at Spring Hill Baptist Church, Blackstone Virginia where she remained a member. She worshiped and sung in the choir until she went to college. Brenda’s trust, faith and belief in God’s word was unwavering. She often spoke of her blessings. She loved the Lord and her family.

Brenda was educated in the Nottoway County Public Schools and graduated from Nottoway High School in 1978. She continued her education at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia from which she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from The Sydney Lewis School of Business in 1982. She continued to advance her career through various courses. Through the years Brenda was employed with Virginia Mutual Life Insurance Company in Richmond, Virginia, Blue Cross Blue Shield in Richmond, Virginia, American Citizens Life Insurance Company in Washington, DC, North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company in Durham, North Carolina and lastly, Duke University Health Systems Patient Revenue Management in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

Brenda was a highly dedicated Board Member for the Family Counseling Services of Durham, and a member of the Special Events Committee for Durham Human Relations, and the Vice President-Treasurer for Toastmasters Durham Chapter. She received outstanding recognition for her professional development studies at the Life/Health Management Institute of Durham. She received honors, certificates, and awards for excellence and course study.

Brenda’s loving and giving spirit manifested continually to the countless people she came into contact. Her heartfelt contributions toward helping others in need was unlimited.

Brenda adored cats, enjoyed traveling and planting flowers. She enjoyed traveling with her sister. She traveled abroad to France, Spain, Italy, Rome, Riviera Maya Mexico, Montego Bay, Jamaica and Ocho Rios, Jamaica and enjoyed many cruises to Caribbean Islands.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her dearest sister Cynthia Crenshaw of Richmond, VA, sister-in-law, Gladys Evans of Chesapeake, VA; nephews, Sentel Crenshaw, Melvin Evans, Jr. (April) of Greensboro, NC and Mark Evans (Andrea) of Chesapeake, VA; great-nephews, Mark Hosea Evans, Ja’Vion Evans, Christian Evans, and Gabriel Evans; a great-niece, Olana; a loving aunt, Thelma Evans of Blackstone, VA. Devoted cousins Warren Johnson of Accokeek, MD and Jeannette Pouncey of Chester, VA and many wonderful cousins and friends.



Viewing will be held Thursday, June 2, 2022 at 11:00AM with Funeral Service to start at 12:00 Noon at Springhill Baptist Church, Blackstone. Interment church cemetery.
