Obituary for Branch E. Parker
DEACON BRANCH E. PARKER entered into eternal rest on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Son of the late Charlie and Annie H. Parker, he was born February 12, 1928 in Nottoway County.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Berthel Williams Parker, one brother James Parker and four sisters, Corlene Scott, Lucinda Overby, Catherine Moses and Rosa Parker.
He graduated from Nottoway Training School. At an early age he joined the Cedar Hill Baptist Church. He was a faithful, active and dedicated member until his illness. He served as a member of the Deacon’s Ministry and Men’s Ministry, he was the Ministry Leader and Church Clerk. He also taught Sunday School at Shiloh Baptist Church, Blackstone and was a Boy Scout Leader. He was a member of the W.H. Hughes #95 Masonic Lodge.
On February 8, 1953 he was joined in holy matrimony to Berthel Williams.
Deacon Branch served in the United States Army for two years and was awarded an Honorable Discharge.
Deacon Branch was an employee at Sheffield Furniture Company and later became an Engineer at Forth Pickett until retirement.
He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving brother, Roosevelt (Lucille) Parker of Phoenix, MD; sister-in-law, Barbara W. Blakey of Harrisonburg, VA; two god-children, Ms. Rhonda Johnson and Ms. Wanda Eppes of Blackstone, VA; nieces, Evelyn Parker, Jacqueline Scott, Beverly White, all of Blackstone, VA, Michelle Overby of Woodbridge, VA and Celia Willis of Baltimore, MD; nephews, Leroy (Wanda) Parker, David (Judy) Parker of Baltimore, MD, Derek (Sharon)
Parker of Phoenix, MD, Rodney (Anna) Scott of Fayetteville, NC, Thomas (Cheryl) Scott of Columbia, SC, Dennis Overby of Green Bay, VA and Charles (Shelia) Overby of Chesterfield, VA; a host of other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends. He also leaves to cherish his memory, several special and dear friends, Ernestine Tucker, Penny Hill, Donald Webster, Richard Carmichael and Thomas Taylor.
Visitation at the funeral home Friday, November 16, 2012 from 6 to 7p.m.
Funeral Services Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Hill Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
