Obituary for Betty C. Smith
On Monday, January 25, 2021, the Lord came and carried our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, mother-in-law, cousin and friend home to be with Him.
On September 25, 1926, Lottie and Columbus Oliver welcomed the blessing the God had given them with the birth of a precious daughter. They named her Betty Converse Oliver. Betty was the baby with seven older siblings, "Lump", Mack, Virginia, Mattie, Lucille, Viola and Louise who all preceded her in death. her siblings soon began to call her "Connie" and the name extended to all her family and friends.
At an early age she joined Morning Star Baptist Church. After marriage she became a member of Macedonia Baptist Church where she worked diligently as an usher and deaconess until her health prevented her from doing so.
Betty was united in Holy Matrimony to Clarence Rayfield Smith whom preceded her in death in 1980. To this union four children were born with one, Earl J. Smith, Sr. preceding her in death in 2015.
Betty was a dedicated wife and mother who raised her children to be honest, respectful, and hard-working adults. She was employed at Piedmont Geriatric Hospital for over 28 years where she enjoyed working with numerous friends and associates.
Betty leaves to cherish her memories, three children, Mearl (Edith), Constance (Edward III) and Clarence Jr.; seven grandchildren, Troy (Tanya), Tony (Tammi), Earl, Jr. (Christina), Edward, III (Juanita), Carl (Michelle), Vhondrena (Calvin) and Eddrina (Christopher); twenty great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; nieces Phyllis and Marjorie; nephew, Billy; caretaker Ruby Price and a host of cousins, neighbors, and friends.
