Obituary for Bernice Wynn
Bernice Wynn passed into eternal rest on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the Collidge House Nursing Care Center in Brookline, MA after a long illness.
Ms. Wynn was born on March 26, 1934 to Reverend Richard Wynn and Irene Cralle Wynn in Lunenburg County, VA. Bernice was a graduated of Lunenburg High School in Victoria, VA, and attended Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA. She joined the Pleasant Oak Baptist Church at an early age. Upon her passing she was a member of Peoples Baptist Church of Boston, MA, organized in 1805, and the oldest continuing black church in New England.
She was retired from the US Department of the Navy, and afterwards worked for the TJX Companies and CVS Pharmacy, all located in Boston. During her career Bernice also provided consolation to the Boston area hospital patients by reading to them while they awaited surgery or were in recovery. She enjoyed the theatrical arts and travel.
Bernice was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Bessie Ashwood, Annette Wynn and Annie Mae Shelton; her brothers, Henry Wynn, George Wynn and Ernest Wynn. She leaves as her survivors, brothers Arthur Wynn (Laverne), Samuel Wynn (Willie), Reverend Andrew Wynn, Norman Wynn (Katherine), Clarence Wynn, James Otis Wynn (Frances), and Alfred Wynn. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and many grandnieces and nephews. Bernice was especially blessed to have had at her side during her last years and illnesses, her nephew Leroy Ashwood, his wife, Joan and daughter Jordan. Bernice enjoyed this family and was included in many of their activities of celebration and happiness.
The family is grateful for the many expressions of concern and prayerful love that were offered to our beloved Bernice especially during the latter stages of her life. The family knows that they were of strong comfort to her and to the family.
Funeral Services were held Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Pleasant Oak Baptist Church, Victoria with interment in the Wynn Family Cemetery, Kenbridge.
