Obituary for Bernard Johnson
Bernard Johnson was born on October 19, 1924 to the late Henry Johnson and Susie Booker in Amelia County, Virginia.  He came to know Christ at an early age at Union Branch Baptist Church in Amelia.
He was educated in the public schools of Virginia, he had and instilled a great respect for education to his daughters. “ If you are going to live in this house you will get a college degree. “
At the age of 19 he entered the U. S. Navy where he served in Okinawa during WWII.
On October 25, 1947 he was united in marriage to Mary Lois Smith. They were married for 39 years before the passing of his beloved Lois whom he dedicated himself to taking care of better than any hospital ever could during her extended illness.
He was employed by Bethlehem Steel Company of Sparrows Point for 35 years where he made some life long friends like Mr. Leon Clayborne, whom at 90 years old would still come by to visit and check on him.
Bernard was a many faceted jewel. While many in his neighborhood knew not to mess with the Chrysler in front of his door because Mr. Johnson didn’t play, they also knew he was the person who shaved his neighbors when they were bedridden, and was trusted with the keys of the homes and cars of several neighbors as they had need.  Bernard loved to cook and was actually a good cook, fixing big meals, always ready to feed everyone.  He enjoyed seeing you eat!  Bernard lived a good life and left many happy memories to those he came to know.
He leaves to cherish his memory:  his son Tyrone Van Risen and his wife Christina; two daughters Anita L. Harris and Doreen (Joanie) Omisore; two sons in-law Bobby Harris and Ademola (Tony) Omisore; one grandson Bolaji Omisore; three granddaughters Atina (McGhee) Hall, Folake Omisore, and Crystal Risen; a loving brother and sister, Luther Johnson and Julia Coleman; one brother in-law Lee Smith, three sisters in-law Eula Smith, Almega Macklin and Sarah Smith, five great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of devoted friends and loved ones.
