Obituary for Bernard Fields
Bernard Fields was born on April 9, 1952 in Early Branch, SC to the late Henry Fields and Edna Lee Fields. He was the “baby” of five children. He was educated in the New York City Public School System attending P.S. 54 and East New York Vocational High School. He also attended New York Technical College in Brooklyn, NY.

Bernard married his wife Linda Fields on March 25, 1973. From this union came “his 3 girls”, Natavia LaShaun, Tisha Nicole and Bernadette Marie.

Later, with a great deal of thought, he entered the United States Air Force from 1976 to 1979 (3 years 6 months). He was an Aerospace Ground Equipment Mechanic. He received the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon and The Good Conduct Medal.

He loved his three girls unconditionally. He would pick them up just to take them to Emerson Park to spend time with him. He always made sure that they were with their grandma, aunts, uncles and cousins, who remained their best friends; especially on Sundays at grandma’s house and at their family reunions, where he would say “Get Out Of Town”. He would always say “We All Love You Y’all”.

Bernard was such a cool, calm, collective and handsome man. He would always listen to you. If you needed advice he would give you peaceful and logical advice. He always said “you gotta think”. Bernard’s brothers and sister meant the world to him, and he meant the world to them. They always looked out for each other. Whenever he needed a hand, they were there for him without hesitation. You couldn’t find a tighter bunch.

Later, he would relocate to Blackstone, VA on July 1, 2000, where he would start a new journey. Along his journey he had a great, kind friend Archie “Rick” Jones. Rick would help him learn this new town he move to. After a few weeks he knew the town like the back of his hand, creating new friendships at work (16 years) and in the town with lots of people.

After a two week battle with his illness, Bernard Fields was summoned to his heavenly home while in McGuire Richmond VA Medical Center on February 5, 2017. Bernard leaves to cherish his fond memories Wife Linda Fields; three girls, Natavia LaShaun Fields, Tisha Nicole Fields-Glover and Bernadette Marie Fields; grandson, Eric; granddaughters, Tamya, Sila, and Erika; son-in-law, Silas Glover; four siblings, Henry “Henry, Jr.” Fields (Hazel), Lotah “Top” Fields (Olga), Lee Alvin “Teddy” Fields (Alberta) and Mildred “Mil” McJunkin (William); nieces, Nichelle, Lydia (Cookie), Vanessa (Nessa), Edna Eanion, Henrietta (Retta), Genevieve (Gen), Jessica (Jess), Jennifer (Jenn), Helen, LaTisha (Tish), Starr; nephews, Anthony (Tony) Bomani (Beany), Todd, Lotah II (Abu), Brian, Rhon and Clive; best friend, Archie “Rick” Jones, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and caring friends.
