Obituary for Berlien Elizabeth Wright
Berlien Elizabeth Smith Wright, age 85, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 19, 2014. Affectionately known to all as “Babydoll”, she was born on January 15, 1929 as one of twelve children to the late William and Aranda Jones Smith in Braddock, Pennsylvania.
In 1945, Babydoll came to Virginia to visit family and while there she met and married the love of her life, the late William “Bill” Wright. To this union, they had three sons, William, Jr., Woodrow, and James Thomas. All of whom preceded her in death.
She retired from Levi Strauss where she worked as an inspector for over thirty years. After retiring she found joy working with the Walton family of Blackstone, VA.
Babydoll joined the Cellar Creek Baptist Church where she worked diligently before moving to Richmond due to declining health. She was an active member of the Senior Choir, Pastor’s Aide, Missionary Circle, Deaconess Board and a Sunday School teacher. Babydoll loved everyone and everyone loved her.
Babydoll’s memory will forever be cherished by her brother, Woodrow Smith, Sr.; seven loving grandchildren, James Morgan, Andre Wright, Sr. (Mateshia), Candice Wright, Tracie Wright, Jamie Wright, Bobby Reynolds (Cocice), and Raymond Hampton; two great-grandchildren, Andre’, Jr. and Raymond, Jr.; two daughters–in-law, Joan Wright and her devoted caregiver, Joanne Watts; two brothers-in-law, Jimmie Morgan and James Wright; two sisters-in-law, Mable Stokes and Iris Wright; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
