Obituary for Benjamin C. Doswell, Sr.
BENJAMIN COSBY DOSWELL, SR., son of the late William and Mary Morgan Doswell of Blackstone was born July 23, 1921. He departed this life on January 5, 2008 after a lengthy illness at Hickory Hill Retirement Community in Burkeville, VA. He was educated in the Nottoway County School System. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined New Prospect Baptist Church. He was a dedicated and faithful servant. He served as a Trustee for many years. Benjamin served his country in the Army from January 3, 1943 as a Special Vehicle Operator and received an Honorable Discharge on December 25, 1945. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the NAACP. Ben owned and operated Ben’s Café in Kenbridge, VA for forty five years. In 1958 Benjamin married the former Mary Anna Foster of Nottoway County. They were blessed with three children, Joyce Coleman of Silver Springs, MD, Benjamin Cosby Doswell, Jr. (deceased), and Robert Doswell of Washington, DC. In addition to his wife and children, he leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter-in-law, Juanita Doswell; three grandchildren, William Coleman Jr., Jarvis Coleman and Jermaine Coleman; six great grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Jennings of Blackstone, VA; five sisters-in-law, Alice Doswell and Nannie Doswell of Blackstone, VA, Laura Pollard of Crewe, VA, Arnetha Doswell of Baltimore, MD and Capitola Doswell of Colorado Springs, CO; one brother-in-law, August Jennings of Blackstone, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. There will be visitation at the funeral home Wednesday night from 6 to 7 p.m.Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 10, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. from New Prospect Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the Doswell Family Cemetery, Blackstone.
