Obituary for Ben L. Browder, Jr.
Ben Louis Browder, affectionally known as “Big Ben” or “Dick” departed this life unexpectedly on Friday, February 18, 2022 at his home. He was born in Richmond, VA on December 14, 1971 to Ruby Tucker Love and the late Ben Louis Browder, Sr. He was baptized and joined Spring Hill Baptist Church at an early age.

Ben graduated from Nottoway County Public Schools in the Class of 1990. Ben took his exam with the Commonwealth of Virginia, and became a Licensed Barber in February 1994. Ben graduated in 2002 from Southside Virginia Community College with an Associate Degree of Applied Science in Human Services.

Ben worked at Powhatan Correctional Center for many years. Ben then became the entrepreneur of Ben’s House of Styles in Blackstone, VA, where he has served the community for over 28 years making a lot of friends. In 2014, Ben became a Master Barber. Ben was a great inspiration to so many and never met a stranger. Ben would greet everyone with a tight hug and as many would say wet kisses. Ben was loved by so many, and many loved his wisdom and knowledge that he shared. Ben also knew the Lord and would almost preach a sermon, if you talked or stayed long enough in his presence. Ben would help anyone in need if he could or had it. Although his statue was big and to some intimidating, he was the biggest teddy bear. Ben even participated in the Christmas Parade as a teddy bear, and his hugs would demonstrate just that always loving and friendly.

Ben was preceded in death by his father Ben Louis Browder, Sr., grandparents, James “Jim” Tucker, Sadie J Browder and Linwood Myrick, one brother Andrew Brown, his uncles, Quentland “Jack” Tucker, Alexander “Fox” Browder, Harvey “Tac” Browder, James R. Jones, John C. Kelly, Gerald G. Williams, Rudolph Jones, Sr. his aunts, Annie T. Williams (whom he adored) and Hattie B. Crittendon and his cousin Raphael X. Williams.

Ben leaves to cherish his memories: His loving and supportive mother, Ruby T. Love and the love of his life, his grandmother, Ernestine S. Tucker of Blackstone, VA, one daughter, Ke’Asha Bullard of Richmond, VA and one son, Jaelin Ross of Blackstone, VA; three sisters, one loving and devoted, Andrea T. Jefferson (Suebaby) of Blackstone, VA, Chessie Brown of Petersburg, VA and Sadie Harper (Milton) of Dinwiddie; five brothers, Eric Jones, of Blackstone, VA, Edwin Vaughan of Wilsons, VA, Patrick Mayo of Victoria, VA, Richard A. Brown of Hopewell, VA and Louis Mason of Petersburg, VA. Six aunts, Ella Mae Jones of Dewitt, VA, Brenda Boykins of Philadelphia, PA, Barbara Jones of Kenbridge, VA, Claudia Kelly and Tuandra Spratley of Blackstone, VA and Earnestine Bingham (Kevin) of Woodstock, GA. Three nephews, Robert Jefferson, Darryl Sellars and Eidris Jones. A host of cousins and friends, many devoted friends to include a few, Dirk Fowlkes, Reggie Wilson, and Edward “Cuz” Thompson.
