Obituary for Barney Jerome Fowlkes
BARNEY JEROME FOWLKES departed this life on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at his residence. Barney, son of the late George and Mary Fowlkes, was born on March 4, 1957 in Blackstone, VA. He was the youngest son of four children.
BARNEY was baptized at an early age at St. Peters A.M.E. Zion Church in Blackstone, VA. He was educated in the public school system of Nottoway County and graduated from Nottoway High School. After graduating, he joined the United States Army in March 1976 as an Army Medic Specialist and was Honorably Discharged from active duty in March 1979. He was employed with Phillip Morris as a maintenance technical until retirement on October 30, 2005.
BARNEY is survived by one brother, Irving Cousins; one sister, Iva F. Branch; two nieces, Tonya Cousins and Angela C. Douglas of Washington, DC; two nephews, Irving Vaughan of Manhattan, NY and James (JB) Branch of Crewe, VA; three great nieces, Nona, Yakari and Saniya; one great nephew, Jalen. He also leaves to cherish his memory a devoted life-time friend, Mr. Samuel Turner, also Mr. Thomas Taylor, Jr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Blackstone with interment in the Shiloh Baptist Church-Dinwidde Cemetery.
