Obituary for Augusta M. Stokes
Augusta M. Stokes, 90 entered into eternal rest and peace on Sunday morning April 26, 2015 at her home. Daughter of the late Leroy and Elizabeth Hawkes, Augusta was born on February 10, 1925. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Willie Hawkes and Catherine Brown.
At an early age she was baptized and became a member of Springhill Baptist Church where she attended until her health began to fail.
Augusta was married to Henry Mitchell, he preceded her in death. They were blessed with two children. In later years she married William Stokes, who also preceded her in
death.
She was employed by Southside Convalescent Home, Clays Nursing Home, Levi Strauss, and Heritage Hall Nursing Home from which she retired.
Augusta leaves to cherish fond memories:Â one son, Linwood Randolph Mitchell (Vickie) of Washington, DC; one daughter, Sue Ellen Mitchell of Blackstone, VA; one grandson, Randolph E. Mitchell (Latisha); two great grandchildren, Joelle and Randolph; one sister-in-law, Martha Walker; two goddaughters, Sheila Williams and Melissa Wilson; one godson, Cameron McLendon; caretaker, Brandy; devoted cousin, Frances Wilson who loved her dearly; devoted friends, Ann Jones, Kay Wallace and Clara Hawkes; a host of cousins and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 12:00 noon at Springhill Baptist Church, Blackstone.
