Obituary for August Jennings
August Jennings, son of the late Sam and Edna Jennings was born on March 5, 1919. He departed this life on Sunday, August 21, 2011 after a lengthy life of diabetes.
August was educated in the Lunenburg County Schools. At an early age he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined Pleasant Oak Baptist Church. Later while living in Maryland he joined Church of God, and was an active member, serving on the Usher Board, until he moved to Blackstone, VA.
He retired from Bethlehem Steel Company after forty years. August loved talking to family and friends, especially the people he met in Walmart.
August is survived by his daughter, Pinkie Butler; grandchildren, Jake, Kamey and J’nay Butler; a sister, Claudine Tucker; a brother, Ernest “Russell” Jennings; sisters-in-law, Martha Jennings, Alice, Capitola and Nannie Doswell; a son-in-law, Jake Butler; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and devoted caregivers, Vernette Lawson, Tony Walker, Anna Davis and Mark Bell.
Funeral Services Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Blackstone with interment in the Doswell Family Cemetery, Blackstone.
