Obituary for Arethea E. Tucker
Mrs. Arethea Tucker was born in Amelia County, Virgina in 1926 to her loving parents Mrs. Bradia and Mr. Benjamin Booker. She graduated from Russell Grove High School, attended Hampton College, and later attended Cosmetology School.
After finishing her education, Mrs. Tucker began her professional career as a Licensed Beautician. She later became a Teachers’ Assistant at Blackstone Intermediate School, where among her duties was being a reading specialist for a blind student, Ms. April Tucker.
At an early age Mrs. Tucker married the late Mr. Thomas L. Tucker. From this union came one daughter, Carolyn, who was loved more than life itself. Mrs. Tucker wore holes in her underclothes so that Carolyn could wear lace around her socks. Her love for her daughter and husband was unselfish, unconditional, and extraordinary.
Mrs. Tucker joined Union Baptist Church at a young age and later served this church faithfully as a devoted choir member and pianist. It is at this church that she developed a strong faith in God and learned the power of prayer.
Mrs. Tucker had many talents including singing, making pancakes, playing piano, and sewing. She loved to travel and did a lot of it over the years. She traveled to most states in the U.S. and to several islands outside of this country.
All who knew Mrs. Tucker were impacted by her warm smile and pleasant disposition. She loved people and they loved her. Among her important goals was to have no enemies when she left this world. Indeed, she was a role model for us all when it comes to having a forgiving heart.
Mrs. Tucker leaves to celebrate and honor her memory many family members who love her. These include her daughter, Dr. Carolyn M. Tucker (husband, Mr. Theotis Callaway); her devoted sister, Mrs. Rena Brown; her brother, Minister Alphonso Booker (wife, Reverend Rose Booker); God-daughter, Ms. Bradia Owens; and a host of nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and cousins. She also leaves a host of friends who love and admire her.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Arethea Tucker will be held Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Poplar Lawn Baptist Church, Blackstone with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
