Obituary for Annie Lee Allen
Annie Allen was born to the late Blanche and Arthur Hanks on October 30, 1925 in Nottoway County, Virginia. She was called home to glory on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 after a lengthy illness. Annie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age, and was ready when called upon.
There were always countless stories of fun and love during her childhood in Virginia with her brother and five sisters, (Warren, Ernestine, Augusta, Pearl, Corrine and Bessie), all whom preceded her in death. despite their close bond and everlasting love for each other, the sisters left the nest in search of opportunities in the north. each settled and started families of their own.
Annie, affectionately called 'Gam-Ma' by her grandchildren, chose Baltimore, Maryland as her new home, where she later married and birthed two daughters, Pat and Neacie. Times were rough, despite her education in the Nottoway County School System, so Annie did what she knew best...she went to work! Things were also rough for Pat and Neacie, because Annie ran a tight ship, and didn't tolerate any foolishness. Tough love aside, Annie was a devoted mother and a loving grandmother who always put her family first.
She was a faithful member of Christ Institute Church in East Baltimore, up to the time of her illness. She enjoyed reading her bible, and singing gospel hymns. Corn Pudding was her specialty, and she never hesitated to whip up a dish when asked to do so. Annie was known for her infectious laughter, selflessness, wisdom and love of God. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Annie leaves to cherish her memory:Â two daughters, Pat and Neacie; three grandchildren, Michael, Tania and Chantel; five great-grandchildren, Dijon, Kendall, Bernard, Taylor and Makyah; four nieces, Nora, Carolyn, Nancy and Cheryl; one brother-in-law, Avery Hollington; son-in-law, Teddy Cole; and a host of great nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at St. Paul's Praise and Worship Center in Baltimore, MD with graveside services on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at the Hanks Family Cemetery, Crewe, VA.
