Obituary for Annie Holmes Wallace
Annie Mae Holmes Wallace was born June 17, 1935, in Lunenburg County Virginia to the late James and Annie Holmes, she was the sixth of ten children. It was apparent from early on that Annie was going to be a strong-willed person. Annie received her education in the Lunenburg County, VA school system. Annie had a personal relationship with God. She was baptized at West Hill Baptist Church (VA) at an early age.
After giving birth to her daughter Ozzice, she relocated to Harlem, NYC in 1955 with the hope of improving her life and creating a better future for her family. In 1964 she met and married the late Victor Wallace.
Annie loved many things but most of all she loved her Lord and Savior and her family. Annie also loved to dance, cook, play cards, and her scratch offs. Annie loved to talk with family and friends; her conversations were very humorous. At every event, she would dance the night away with a flower placed in her hair. Annie was a loving and giving person. She never hesitated to be a blessing to children family or friends. Her generosity knew no bounds.
Annie mastered many jobs in her life, she settled at The Hospital for Joint Diseases (North General Hospital) where she labored from 1966 to 1998 retiring after 32 years of service.
Yahweh continued to keep his hand over her life. April 18, 1982, she recommitted her life back to Christ joining Union Baptist Church of Harlem under the leadership of the late Rev. Ollie B. Wells, Pastor. Serving on the Virginia Circle Ministry. Annie continued to serve her Church until she was physically unable to do so. Annie’s faith in God was so strong that she often scoffed at doctor’s reports and their advice. She would turn down recommended surgeries that they would tell her if she did not take, she will not live.
She would just look up at you and say, “that’s not what God told me, and I am going to trust God for my healing”. Isaiah 53:1. Annie believed the report of the Lord until He called her home at the age of eighty-six. On the morning of January 12, 2022, God’s mercy prevailed, and she surrendered to her Father who ruled and reigned in her life. Preceding her in death, daughter Ruthanne Ellerbe, brothers Robert, Thomas, Walter A., and Floyd Holmes. Two sisters Lueran Holmes and Rose M. Alford whom she loved dearly.
