A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother has left us, but her spirit will live on in us for all eternity.
On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, in Amelia, VA, the Lord sent an angel to escort Angeline Jackson Wingo to her forever home. She was born in Amelia on April 28,1936 to the late Robert E. Jackson and Annie E. Jackson. She was one of six children, one sister and four brothers; she outlived all her siblings.
At an early age, Angeline united with our Lord Jesus Christ and joined the Little Bethel Baptist Church. She served as an active member and devoted deaconess throughout her life. She was also actively involved with the NAACP since the 1950s and participated in the Russell Grove Alumni Association (High School Class of 1953).
On March 26, 1955, Angeline was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Calvin Wentworth Wingo, Sr. They had four children, Calvin Wentworth, Jr., Debra Michelle, Roger Erwin, and Penny Eileen.
They started their family in Amelia, then moved to Paterson, New Jersey and found work at Van Dykes Nursing Home. The family returned to Amelia in 1973 where Angeline worked as a dietitian at Chippenham Hospital. After more than 15 years, she left food service and worked as a substitute teacher in Amelia County.
Family was the most important part of Angeline’s life. She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters-in-law, Delice and Linda, and son-in-law, Harold; 6 grandchildren: Christopher, Terrance, Thomas, Jason, Joseph, and Justin; 10 great grandchildren: Kyrsten, Kylie, Kourtney, Rylan, Temperance, Taytum, Teaghan, Jaylen, Jaceyon, and Josiah.
So many others adored Angeline, including her dear sisters-in-law, MaryAnn Jackson and Mary Jackson; and brother-in-law, Reuben Broadnax, Sr. The family is especially grateful for close friend, Gloria Jean Booker, who provided companionship and was Angeline’s “partner in crime” in her final years.
Angeline and Calvin, Sr. were beloved in the Amelia community and most knew them as, Mr. C. and Mrs. C. Angeline was so friendly and outgoing; she would talk to anyone and everyone!
In addition to family, Angeline loved food – both cooking it and eating it – she’s the original “foodie.” She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and TV game shows.
