Obituary for Andrew C Wilkerson
ANDREW CARY WILKERSON quietly entered into eternal rest at the age of 90, on Friday, June 25, 2010, at Retreat Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. He was born in Amelia County on August 29, 1919 to the late Peple Reasy and Della Green Wilkerson. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Amanda (Robinson) Wilkerson; four sisters, Sally, Mary, Eva, and Ethel; two brothers, Leroy and Carlyle; and daughter-in-law, Meleisa.
Andrew accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour at an early age. He was baptized and joined St. James Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and faithful member for many years until his health began to decline.
He was educated in the Amelia County Public School System, then began serving his country in the United States Army from August 1941 until his honorable discharge in December 1945 after earning rank as a Corporal. Upon leaving the army, he became an orderly at the Piedmont Geriatric Hospital in Burkeville, Virginia, where he continued in that position for over forty years until his retirement.
In earlier times, Andrew enjoyed working on cars and watching wrestling on TV. In later years, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the young children and sitting outside on the porch. He was a quiet man with a big heart and would lend a hand to anyone who needed it.
He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving wife, Regina Randolph Wilkerson; a daughter, Venida Henderson (Gerry, Sr.); a son, Alvin Wilkerson (Marcia); a stepdaughter, Nellie Simms; four stepsons, George (Thelma), MacArthur (Phyllis), Carl (Barbara), and John (Helen) Randolph; eight grandchildren, Cherisha, Ashley, Aleisha, LaCary, Gerry Jr. (Tiffany), Tiara, Tiffany (Radell), and Tony; five great grandchildren, Mathias, Anaiya, Serenity, Makaylah, and Tiahna; devoted nieces and nephew, Linwod Branch, Jr., Annie Mathews (Randolph), Ruth Gills, and Mary Marshall; a sister-in-law, Daisy Johnson; a brother-in-law, George “Linwood” Robinson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Homegoing services will be held Friday, July 2nd at 1:00 p.m. from Holy Ghost Living Tabernacle Church (St. James), Jetersville, with interment in the church cemetery.
Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home of Amelia in charge of the arrangements.
