Obituary for Alvin E. Clay
Alvin Eugene Clay departed this life on Thursday, March 28, 2024 peacefully at Johnston Willis Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Alvin, son of the late William Clay and Ora Belle Worsham Clay was born April 2, 1957 in Nottoway County. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ophelia Clay Bragg.
Alvin was educated in the Nottoway County Public Schools, graduating in 1977. At an early age Alvin was baptized and became a member of Poplar Lawn Baptist Church. He later joined First Nottoway Baptist Church where he sang in the choir until his health began to fail.
Alvin was a happy, joking person. He loved shooting pool with his brothers, playing bid whist and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Alvin will be greatly missed.
Alvin was united in Holy Matrimony to his high school sweetheart Carolyn Clay and they were married for forty-five years. They were blessed with one daughter, Shimeeka Clay and one adopted daughter, Deneen Dowtin.
Alvin leaves to cherish his loving memory: his wife, Carolyn Clay of Blackstone, VA; daughters, Shimeeka Clay and Deneen Dowtin of Blackstone, VA; granddaughters, Vineasha Stokes, Dasia Dowtin and Deona Dowtin; grandsons, Kevin Stokes Jr, Deon Clay and DaQuan Dowtin; brothers, Wendell Clay (Corlis) and Floyd Clay (Beverly) of Blackstone, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
