Obituary for Alice E. Tucker
God allowed the sun to shine briefly early morning on April 3, 2014 as He descended down to bring Alice Mae Epes Tucker, fondly known as “Wee Wee” to her heavenly home to receive her reward. Alice endured a lengthy battle with cancer, but fought a good fight until God said to her “No more my child, come to me and rest now.”
Alice was born on December 21, 1952 to the late Horace W. Epes and Alice Parker Epes of Crewe, Virginia. She attended the Nottoway County Public Schools. She was employed with several businesses during her lifetime to include Craddock Terry Shoe Corp, Ft. Pickett Lodging, several Home Health companies, and most recent as a certified nursing assistant at Piedmont Geriatric Hospital in Burkeville, VA. Alice absolutely loved her job at Piedmont and the joy of interacting with the patients and her coworkers. All were very fond of her.
In 1969 Alice gave birth to a son, Anthony Lamont Epes who preceded her in death at 3 years of age. In 1972 she married Harold Melvin “Boogie” Tucker and to this union one daughter was born, Kim Raquel Tucker.
At an early age, Alice was baptized and accepted Christ as her Savior at the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. She later joined the Shiloh Baptist Church and sang in the Senior Choir for several years. One of her greatest talents was singing, which she loved to do. After many years Alice decided that she wanted to return to her home roots and rejoined the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Mt. Nebo Senior Choir, served as past President of the Women’s Ministry, served on the Nurse Ministry and was always willing to serve her church family in any way that she could. She was a dutiful servant until her health began to fail.
“Wee Wee”, was such a joy to be around. There was nothing that she couldn’t turn into humor and make everyone contagious with laughter. She had a fire spirit and a go getter attitude. She was the one in the family that everyone looked for at family functions and events. She had a knack for fashion, loved different styles of jewelry and could make any outfit look fabulous. She would always say “I keep my clothes because all this stuff will come back in style.” She loved family, every single member. She had a close fond relationship with her daughter and two grandchildren. “Grandma Wee Wee” is what they called her and she was always so proud of them and shared that often with everyone. She is sorely missed and that witty personality she had will never be replaced. We will hold dear to our hearts forever every single memory that she left us, every lesson that she taught us, and her wisdom.
Alice was a softball player with the Mean Machines of Blackstone, VA in the 70’s where she played the position of catcher. She was one mean lefty behind that plate. Her other hobbies included reading and watching old TV shows.
Alice leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Harold “Boogie” Tucker, of Blackstone, VA; devoted, loving and faithful daughter Kim R. Tucker, and future son-in-law, Kenneth Kitchings II, of Petersburg, VA. Grandchildren, Danaisha R. Blue, Petersburg, VA, and Danny L. Blue, Jr. of Wingate, NC. Three sisters; Thelma (Andrew) Black, of Oakland, CA, Juanita (Macktoy) Hawkes, of Blackstone, VA; Esther (Leon) Jackson of Farmville, VA; One brother, Willie (Janie) Epes of Baltimore, MD, youngest brother Chester Epes, preceded her in death.
