Obituary for Alease Murray

Alease Ruffin Murray, daughter of the late Matthew and Carrie Ruffin began her life on August 6, 1934. She was born, raised, and educated in Amelia County, VA.

Alease accepted Christ at an early age, becoming a member of Flower Hill Baptist Church.

Alease worked as a dietitian at Forest Hill Nursing Home for many years. She enjoyed cooking for her family and children. Bennie, her youngest son, says that to this day, no one makes homemade spaghetti like Mom. Nothing made her smile like being surrounded by her grandchildren at family gatherings. To the end when you called the names of her grandchildren she would respond. She was a “Mama Bear” when it came to her children and grandchildren. The youngest grandson affectionately gave her the nickname “Sugar.” She was a quiet person with a sweet spirit and smile.

Alease was preceded in death by five sisters, and one brother: Josephine Anderson, Ophelia Robinson, Eleanor Lewis, Ercelle Ruffin, Gladys Clements, and Matthew Ruffin, Jr.

Alease leaves to cherish her memories: a loving husband; Benjamin T. Murray, Jr.; three sons Raymond O. Murray, Sr. (Laverne), Russell Lee Murray (Joyce), Benjamin T. Murray, III (Henryatta), and one daughter, Sandra R. Scott (Lynzra).

She has six grandchildren Raymond O. Murray, Jr; Shaunta Johnson (Tremaine); Dr. Latisha Murray-Royal (Dwayne); Raymone O. Murray; Benjamin T. Murray, III; Tarnesha Murray. She leaves nine great grandchildren Diante Davis; JaNyia Murray, LaRaya Murray; Tremaine Johnson, Jr., Kala Murray, Mya Murray, Arianna Murray, Kari Murray and Shyhiry Murray. In addition, eleven bonus grandchildren and ten bonus great-grandchildren. She leaves three sisters Catherine Epps, Fannie Mae Carey, Patricia Ruffin, and one brother Andrew Ruffin (Evelyn).
