Obituary for Alberta Henderson
Alberta Henderson was called to her heavenly home on Friday, June 24, 2011. She was born in Nottoway County, Virginia on December 22, 1924 to Annie Gilliam and Herman Henderson. Alberta was well known as “Bert” to all who knew her.
At an early age she began her work with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ at First Nottoway Baptist Church, Crewe, VA.
In 1944, Alberta and Harvey united and from that union nine kids were born: Raymond, Richard, Horace, Annie, Brenda, Evelyn, Barbara, Edward and Fannie.
Alberta was predeceased by her parents, Annie Gilliam and Herman Henderson: one son, Richard Henderson: three brothers, John Gilliam, Howard Henderson and Paul Henderson: four sisters, Nellie Braxton, Gladys Rogers, Myrtle Henderson and Mable Cheatman.
She leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories to eight children: Raymond (Carolyn) Henderson of New York, Horace Henderson of Blackstone, VA, Annie Henderson of Blackstone, VA, Brenda (Keith) Hicks of Blackstone, VA, Evelyn (Stephen’) Stokes of Crewe, VA, Barbara Henderson of Blackstone, VA, Edward (Charlene) Henderson of Blackstone, VA and Fannie Marshall of Blackstone, VA; three sisters, Sadie (Eddie) Singleton of Blackstone, VA, Thelma Cummings of Conquer, GA, Yvonne Woods of Brooklyn, NY; daughter-in-law, Edith Henderson (wife of Richard) of Alexandria, VA; 33 grand kids, 47 great grand’s, 4 great-great grand’s, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
The family will visit with friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Virginia United Methodist Assembly Center, Blackstone with interment in the Greenview Cemetery, Blackstone.
