Obituary for Alberta Fowlkes Harris
Alberta F. Harris was called to her heavenly home on August 12, 2019, Richmond, VA 23231. She was born on October 28, 1923 to the late Hattie and Hodges Fowlkes. Alberta was educated in the Nottoway County School System. She joined the Mt. Zion Church at an early age and worshipped there for over 50 years where she has served as president of the Usher Board and assisted the culinary committee. She was the oldest member of Mt. Zion.
She traveled to New York city to join her sister then returned to Virginia to marry Joseph Lee Harris, Jr. on September 7, 1946. He preceded her in death. To this union, one daughter was born, Cassandra Delores Harris. Alberta enjoyed cooking, attending church, socializing with friends, loved ones and her fur babies, Peppie and Agrillo.
She was a member of Evergreen-Benjamin Chapter #64, OES of VA, PHA for over sixty-three years.
She leaves behind a devoted daughter, Cassandra and a devoted son-in-law, Michael; one sister, Bessie of Bronx, NY known as BB; one brother, John known as Johnny Cakes (Irene) of Baltimore, MD; one step brother, Junious Oliver of Baltimore, MD; one step sister; Virginia Keeton of Baltimore, MD; four nieces, Brenda of Woodbridge, VA; Amanda of Queens, NY; Terry of Sevran, MD; one step niece, Jackie of Baltimore, MD; three nephews, Vincent of Bronx, NY; Tracy and Randell of Baltimore, MD and a host of great nieces, great nephews and cousins. One sister, one sister-in-law and three brothers have preceded her in death, Ralph, Joe Lee, Thomas, Mary and Rhoda.
Funeral Service, Sunday, August 18, 2019 at 3 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Burkeville, Virginia. Interment: Harris Family Cemetery, Blackstone, VA.
