Ruth Ellen Lansdown (Green) was born on April 6, 1934 in Nottoway County, Virginia to Creed Nelson Green and Helen Fortune Best. She departed this life on the morning of February 12, 2024, peacefully in her sleep at her home in Blackstone, Virginia.
Ellen, as she is lovingly called by her family and friends, attended Nottoway County Public Schools and graduated from Luther P. Foster High School. She joined Mt. Zion RZUA church on Second Street in Blackstone, VA as a young girl.
Ellen married the love of her life, Louis “Smitty” Lansdown, in 1982. With that marriage she gained two loving step-daughter’s Garlene and Colleen.
Ellen retired from C&P Telephone Company in 1990. She continued her career as a secretary working for the federal government until she fully retired and moved from the home she built in Maryland back to her hometown of Blackstone, Virginia in 2012.
Ellen was preceded in death by her father, mother, husband, four brothers, Ned, Carrol, George, Nelson, Jr., and two sisters, Bertha and Clara.
She is survived by her two step-daughters; one brother-in-law, Gilbert Epes; one niece, Ella Jones; two nephews, Kenneth and Ray Epes; her devoted friend, Thadine Roberts; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
