Obituary for Ruth Agnes Gibson
On October 14, 2017, God called our beloved Ruth Agnes Gibson home to glory. Born May 15, 1932, Ruth was the ninth of ten children of born to the late Faulkner Evans and Agnes Hawkes Evans in Nottoway County.

Ruth was educated in Nottoway County at Cellar Creek Church School. After school, young Ruth worked as a cook where she met and shared a brief marriage with Gilliam Woodson. Later, she moved to Ohio to care for her mother, “Big Mama”. While in Ohio, she met and married the late Elsworth Gibson. Ruth and Elsworth moved to New York where she worked making toys at a toy factory. During their marriage, they provided a loving home for over a dozen foster children. They later moved back to Virginia where Ruth worked as a caregiver.

Once she returned to Blackstone, Ruth was a faithful member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church where she served as an usher until her health began to decline. Ruth filled her later days with enjoying watching The Price is Right, General Hospital, Westerns, listening to spirituals and Otis Redding, and playing her favorite game, Candy Crush Saga.

She was preceded in death by her 4 brothers, William, Frazier, Cliff and Walter; and 2 sisters, Berta and Helen. She leaves to cherish her memories her son, Laronne Gibson and daughter, Eboni Gibson; three sisters, Florence Hawkes, Thelma Walker, and Marion Friend; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that include her devoted great niece, Danielle Archer and the Morris family.

Funeral Services Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Cedar Hill Baptist Church, Blackstone. Interment church cemetery.
