Obituary for Mary L. Thompson
Mary L. Thompson, affectionately known as “Mooney” changed her residence and peacefully went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 18, 2016 leaving many treasured memories with family, friends and acquaintances.

She was born August 2, 1936 to the late William Taft and Annette McQuay.

Mary, a native of Amelia County, accepted Christ as her personal Saviour and chose to have him as the head of her life. She was baptized at Mount Level Baptist Church at an early age.

Mary was a faithful member of the Mount Level Baptist Church in Amelia where she served as the Sunday School Church Secretary; a dedicated and faithful member of the Missionary; and the Jolly Sunshine Adult Group. She was known to many as “Mother Thompson”.
She was preceded in death by her husband William (Phil) E. Thompson Sr.; sons Staff Sgt. Kevin Thompson Sr., Elvis Thompson; daughters Mary Deloris Thompson and Carolyn Wynn; son-in-law Ernest Wynn; sister Rosa Lewis; and sister-in-law Hattie T. Booker.

She leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters Phyllis (Billy) Pettaway of Chesterfield, VA; Edith (Ernest) Hawkes of Blackstone, VA; Sharon Thompson (James Jefferson) of Blackstone, VA; two sons William (Peter) Thompson Jr. (Aretha) of Concord, NC; Larry (Man) Thompson (Angela) of Amelia, VA; 21 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends; and two devoted cousins Deborah J. Davis and Shirley Cousar.

Funeral Services Saturday, December 24, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Level Baptist Church, Amelia with interment in the church cemetery.
