Obituary for Leslie M. Woodson, Sr.
Leslie McKinley Woodson, Sr. was peacefully called to his heavenly home on January 4, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born on February 18, 1927 in Nottoway County to Ruby Gertrude and Jacob Woodson.

He was baptized at an early age at Cellar Creek Baptist Church. He joined Bethseda Presbyterian Church where he has been a member for over seventy years.

While obtaining his education at Cellar Creek School and as a student, McKinley was allowed to drive the school bus under the guidance of his grandfather.

McKinley was united in holy matrimony to the late Fledia C. Woodson. They were blessed with four children.

He worked at Naugle Motor Company for forty-two years as a mechanic and as an inspector until his retirement in March 1989. After his retirement, McKinley spent his remaining years enjoying his hobbies of recycling, collecting antiques, and restoring old cars. McKinley was known in the community as the “junkman” and he and Les were often referred to as Sanford and Son.

He enjoyed gospel, blue grass and country music. One of his greatest passion was going to the State Fair every year. He developed and treasured lasting relationships with his many neighbors and friends in the surrounding communities.

McKinley was a man of great integrity, strength, and wisdom, and was knowledgeable to speak on many subjects. He truly loved the Lord and enjoyed bible discussions. McKinley lived a long and productive life stating that it was more important to listen than to speak.

McKinley leaves to cherish his legacy: two devoted sons, Leslie Woodson of Blackstone, VA and Timothy (Alrita) Woodson of Richmond, VA; two loving daughters, Garnette (Theodore) Brooks of Baltimore, MD and Uzillus “Z” (Ronald) Smith of Richmond, VA; three grandchildren, Sheldon (Maria), Isaac and Ryan; twelve great grandchildren, Christopher, Jessica, Briana, Brandon, Savon, Symone, Diana, Raquel, Ilyana, Myleia, Christian and Gabiella; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 6 t0 7 pm.

Funeral Services Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 12:00 noon at Springhill Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
